International Minimum Industry Training - Further (IMIST-F)
In October 2024, the Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organisation (OPITO) launched IMIST Further (5313), and updated the existing IMIST (5312) standard.
IMIST-F can be completed online to renew IMIST certification, replacing the previous IMIST-Online course and the requirement for IMIST-approved invigilation centres.
As of the 7th of January 2026, Mintra will no longer provide the IMIST (5312) course, certificates or invigilation centre approval and the imist-online.com website will be decommissioned. Further information on the IMIST (5312) course can be found on opito.com.
Mintra will provide the IMIST-F (5313) online course and certificates through Mintra's Trainingportal, Learning and Competency Management platform, and mintra.com website.

On January 7, 2026, www.imist-online.com will be decommissioned, and active licenses will move to Mintra's Trainingportal system.
The migration will include customers with active licenses from the past two years, covering valid unassigned licenses and those linked to incomplete bookings.
Customer Key Contacts and Administrators will be set up as Administrators on Trainingportal. Invigilators will not be created, as invigilation is no longer required for IMIST-F.
On migration day, IMIST-Online will switch to archive mode, allowing access only to past certificates. A snapshot of your licenses will be added to your Trainingportal account, and welcome emails will be sent to migrated administrators.
Note: Previous completions will not transfer to Trainingportal. IMIST-Online will remain available for retrieving older certificates. Incomplete enrolments won’t migrate, but valid licenses tied to them will be added to your Trainingportal balance.
All future IMIST-F course and certificate management will be through Trainingportal. You can manage your users and purchase additional licenses directly through your new Trainingportal account.
More information on purchasing additional licenses can be found here.
IMIST-F (International Minimum Industry Training - Further) is for experienced offshore workers to renew their IMIST certification every four years. Mintra's IMIST-F course can be completed online, with the learner working through nine mandatory units.
The entry requirements for IMIST Further are:
a) A valid OPITO IMIST Initial or valid OPITO IMIST Further training certificate.
Or
b) Have previously worked offshore*
*Learners are required to complete a declaration prior to course commencement confirming prior offshore work experience, including details of their last offshore trip, to include asset name, location and dates.
The original IMIST course is for new starts with no entry requirements and involves practical demonstration and delegate participation.
There are two delivery options: consecutively over two days or incorporated into an employer’s in-house training programme. IMIST can include digital delivery (CBT) supported by practical elements.
The providing organisation must apply for OPITO approval and demonstrate how the learning outcomes will be met and the tests delivered.

IMIST-F licenses can be purchased via www.mintra.com, www.trainingportal.com, or a Mintra Key Account Manager (info@mintra.com).
Learners accessing IMIST-F for the first time are required to complete identification verification (IDV) before accessing the course. This process involves presenting an identity document (ID) with a recent profile picture, such as a passport or photo driving license, and the learner’s face using a webcam or mobile phone camera.
IMIST-F consists of 9 modules in sequence, with a pre-assessment at the start of each module. If all questions are correctly answered in the pre-assessment, the module is completed, and the learner can start the next module.
At any stage, if a question is not answered correctly, the learner is shown the corresponding content to aid their understanding before an alternative question is given. The cycle is repeated using alternate questions until all 9 modules are complete.
On course completion, Mintra automatically notifies OPITO to update the learner's Vantage record and issue Mintra with the official OPITO IMIST-F completion certificate. Mintra stores this certificate in the learner's profile and emails a copy to their registered email address.
This Product is to refresh the fundamental safety elements of the oil & gas industry to experienced personnel, giving an update of the potential hazards and controls that might be encountered by personnel. Each unit has been designed to focus the learners’ attention on their personal responsibility for safety thus influencing their behaviour and attitude towards their co-workers, the oil and gas operations and the environment.
International Minimum Industry Safety Training Further Standard (IMIST-F) was introduced to the global market by OPITO in October 2024. This course is a refresher course for the IMIST, which is completed by new entrant-learners in a training centre. The need for a training centre comes from some of the learning outcomes which must be demonstrated by the learner and assessed by a qualified assessor. Mintra’s IMIST (now IMIST-F) does not support demonstrations from learners as it is purely eLearning and assessment.
The OPITO IMIST-F certificate achieved is valid for 4 years from the date of issue. To refresh again in 4 years, the course may be undertaken up to three months in advance of the expiry date. If a learner’s OPITO IMIST-F certificate expires, this may result in them being unable to travel offshore or work within the oil and gas sector until another IMIST/IMIST-F is completed.
Please note – a worker’s OPITO IMIST/IMIST-F requirement rests with the Duty Holder.
Licenses can be purchased via www.mintra.com, www.trainingportal.com, or a Mintra Key Account Manager (info@mintra.com). Administrators can manage licenses and user profiles on Trainingportal.
www.imist-online.com is to be decommissioned. All future completions of IMIST-F through Mintra shall be completed through our comprehensive Learning Management System (LMS) and Competence Management System (CMS) called Trainingportal.
There is no longer a need for invigilators on IMIST or IMIST-F, therefore Trainingportal does not support invigilator requirements.
Licenses can be purchased through www.mintra.com, www.trainingportal.com or through a Mintra Key Account Manager – enquiries to info@mintra.com. Licenses can be assigned or purchased directly for individuals or managed through your company Trainingportal by an administrator. Administrators have access to assign licenses to learners and can assist with user profile queries.
When accessing the course for the first time, the learner is required to go through an identification process. This uses a digital identification verification (IDV) system which needs the original ID document and the learner’s face scanned as prompted using a webcam (using a mobile phone is normally the most efficient and best quality). Any issues when navigating IDV can normally be resolved by our team at support@mintra.com or through Live Chat during opening hours (8am to 10pm UK times 7 days per week). Almost all international, government-recognised ID forms are supported by this system, and our team can resolve issues promptly when contacted.
Once a learner is through the IDV stage, module 1 of the course is unlocked. Under the previous revision of IMIST maintained by Mintra, one large pre-course assessment was undertaken covering all learning outcomes (LO) for all nine modules. The pre-course assessment is now broken down into each module. If all questions are answered correctly first time, that module is marked as complete and the learner may move onto the next until all nine modules are complete. At any stage, if a question is not answered correctly, the learner is shown the corresponding module content to aid their understanding before an alternative question is asked relating to the same LO. The cycle is repeated using alternate questions and at any time the learner may reach out to support@mintra.com or use the Live Chat for help – though answers shall not be given!
On successful completion of all nine modules, Mintra’s Trainingportal automatically sends the completion to OPITO along with some key personal information to a) update the learner Vantage record and b) issue Trainingportal with the official OPITO IMIST-F completion certificate.
Please note; it can take a few minutes for the OPITO certificate to return from OPITO’s system – Trainingportal maintains a hold message during this wait. If there are any issues with the certificate or long delays waiting (anything over 2 hours) please contact support@mintra.com. In certain circumstances, we may need to contact OPITO on your behalf which may result in further delay as their operational hours are 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday (UK times).
Your Mintra Key Account Manager will be reaching out to your administrator(s) to discuss the transition. Mintra will do all the heavy lifting to transfer your current company details, administrator accounts and live licenses from IMIST-online to Trainingportal and provide the support needed to get to know Trainingportal.
New licenses for IMIST-F are to be requested by contacting your Key Account Manager and will be issued into Trainingportal. Licenses issued to individual learners will result in a login email being sent to the email address provided. If you assign all licenses to the administrator, they will need to forward on to the learner to sign in and complete IDV and the course.
For you, nothing changes. The ways to contact Mintra remain the same - Licenses can be purchased through www.mintra.com, www.trainingportal.com or through a Mintra Key Account Manager – enquiries to info@mintra.com. Individual or bulk-purchased licenses can be provided by the above Mintra contacts.
This course is not provided by Mintra. A global list of OPITO Approved Training Centres for this course and others can be found on the OPITO website Find a Training Centre | Global Training Centres - OPITO.
