Learning Objectives
• Give an overview of basic tanker safety
• Identify the basic chemistry of relevant chemicals and identify toxic hazards of chemicals
• Describe how fire can start onboard and how it is managed
• Give an overview of the relevant legislation that manages chemical tanker operations
• Give an overview of the building requirements and equipment found onboard tankers
• Give an overview of the legislative requirements and operational process that help prevent pollution
• Describe inert gas generators and the use of shore supplies of inert gas.
• Explain the loading, management and discharge of bulk chemical cargoes
• Provide an overview of the guidelines and procedures for the protection and washing of chemical tankers
• Describe enclosed spaces and the procedures for entering them
• Explain vapour emission control systems and how they work
