Further Information - GMDSS Radio Operator Course

Global Maritime Distress and Safety System – GMDSS Radio Operator (STCW Table Table A-IV/2)

The course combines online simulations, animations, helpful explanations, quizzes and final exam to make your training experience engaging and comprehensive. You will explore the functionality and use of all GMDSS components ranging from daily communication to emergency situations using our suite of HALO° simulators. All text passages include an audio component to assist ESL students. Upon completion of the course, you will have access to your course completion certificate as a record of your training.

This course covers required training and competences in Table A-IV/2 of the STCW Code for GMDSS Radio Operators.

Upon successful completion of this course and passing the prescribed examination, a trainee should be able to:

  1. Efficiently operate GMDSS equipment required in sea area A1, A2, A3, and A4.
  2. Fulfill primary radio communications responsibility during distress, urgency, safety and routine incidents.

Given the number of serious problems experienced in the GMDSS resulting from numerous, often accidental, false distress alerts, training will be provided to ensure the awareness and avoidance of unintentional transmission of false distress alerts, and the procedures which mitigate the effects of false distress alerts following unintentional transmission. *Please note: Your final examination will be taken ONLINE with the HALO° Exam Monitoring Software. You will be directed to this page at the end of your course.

Note: A $50 exam fee has been included in the course price.
