• Describe noise-induced hearing loss, and identify the early warning signs and symptoms to look for

• Explain the workings of the human ear, how noise exposure causes damage, and the effects of such damage

• Explain the responsibilities and duties of employers and individual personnel under current legislation

• Explain how noise is measured and identify permissible workplace exposure levels

• Explain the risk assessment requirements

• Identify the control measures that should be taken to reduce exposure to noise

• Explain the requirements for hearing protection; how to use the different methods of hearing protection and the importance of maintaining hearing protection; advantages, disadvantages and attenuation of various types of hearing protection; instructions on selection, fitting, use and care of hearing protection; and the purpose of audiometric testing and an explanation of the test procedures

• Explain the importance of health surveillance
