Award win for Mintra's expanded maritime elearning library

28 / 02 / 2022
The drive by digital learning specialist Mintra to create a holistic training solution for the maritime sector has been recognised with a high-profile industry award. The company's expanded maritime-specific elearning library, which was launched in 2021, has been named as the winner of the training category at the SMART4SEA Awards.

Mintra more than doubled the number of titles available in its maritime library from 107 to 228 as part of a concerted drive into the maritime space. The project was undertaken to allow the company to pursue what it believes is an addressable market of 54,000 vessels with a need for technical and compliance training.

The launch of the library last summer followed on from Mintra's acquisition of maritime elearning supplier, Safebridge. It was designed to create a holistic, low carbon and cost-efficient training solution which, together with superior system functionality designed for connectivity challenges in the marine environment, would allow Mintra to become a strong contender to the sector's current dominant supplier.

Gareth Gilbert, chief operating officer of Mintra, said: "The decision to focus our effort on this library expansion in the second and third quarter of 2021 had an almost immediate impact, with two major contracts for our maritime content signed before it was even completed.

"We are extremely proud of what we have created - a solution that both supports the industry on its digital journey and makes maritime a safer place for millions of seafarers - and it is incredibly rewarding to have our work recognised by the industry."

The expanded library represents 66 hours of additional maritime learning content and cover a wide range of safety, regulatory, operational and technical subjects, broken down into rank and job role from deck officers to galley staff.
Also included are a number of soft skills courses - abilities which are growing in demand given smaller crews and increased automation.

Courses can be delivered via Mintra's learning and competency management system, Trainingportal, which is also available in a unique offline solution. Designed specifically for vessels moving in and out of connectivity, Trainingportal Offline allows crews to access and undertake elearning even when an internet connection is unavailable onboard.
