• Give an overview of the regulatory and legislative controls relating to lifeboat release and retrieval systems
• Describe the purpose of a lifeboat release and retrieval system
• Give an overview of the design features that are involved when launching the lifeboats

• Give an overview of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) requirements for lifeboat release system maintenance, examination and testing
• Explain how drills should be carried out and their required frequency
