Learning Objectives
• LO1 Describe the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS)
• LO2 Describe the functional requirements of the GMDSS
• LO3 Describe the different types of radio waves that allow the transmission of GMDSS communications
• LO4 Identify GMDSS equipment that is required on board
• LO5 Identify the radio requirements for each sea area
• LO6 Give an overview of SOLAS requirements on GMDSS using vessels
• LO7 Describe the process of sending a distress signal via radio communication
• LO8 Explain how and when testing should be carried out on GMDSS equipment
• LO9 Explain the importance of good protocol when communicating through radio
