All officers and ratings responsible for the carriage and care of dangerous and hazardous substances in solid form in bulk.

This course aims to introduce learners to industry best practice in relation to the transportation of dangerous goods in bulk by sea. The course should enable personnel to recognise the general principles and their shipboard application, with particular reference to identifying hazard classes, special considerations for each class, general safety precautions as well as emergency and first aid procedures.

• List the general dangers to health associated with hazardous substances
• Give an overview of the rules governing the transportation of dangerous goods in bulk

• Recognise considerations for specific hazard classes
• Recognise examples of Class 9 substances
• Identify precautions for electrical safety and enclosed spaces
