A Partnership Built on Safety Excellence

Tidewater, a leading provider of offshore support vessels for the global energy industry, partnered with Mintra to create and deliver a bespoke maritime and mariner-specific safety training programme across its international fleet. The result is the Tidewater Safety Training Package, a suite of 25 safety courses deployed via Mintra’s DNV-certified Learning Management System, Trainingportal.

Training is available on and offline as well as in three languages, ensuring Tidewaters 6,000 plus seafarers can access essential safety content wherever they are. Offline functionality means learning can continue uninterrupted, with progress synchronised once an internet connection is restored.

Feedback from the Tidewater crew has been very positive, with 79% giving the training a positive review. Tangible benefits reported across the fleet include:

  • 75% said the training helped them work more efficiently
  • 68% reported direct improvements in job performance
  • 65% said it helped solve specific role-based challenges

This achievement belongs not only to our teams, but to the mariners who have embraced the training and put it into practice onboard. "

Stephen Struthers, Director, QHSE from Tidewater shared, “This nomination showcases our commitment to providing smart, accessible training solutions that enhance crew awareness and safety across the Tidewater fleet. Early feedback from our crews has been overwhelmingly positive, with the package praised for its relevance, clarity, and engagement. It's already making a significant impact by improving individual performance and supporting our overall objective of getting all our crews home safe.”

Purposeful, Practical & Personalised Learning

The Tidewater Safety Training Package is not just a box-ticking exercise, it’s designed with real-world operational needs in mind. In addition to essential certifications, Tidewater has developed courses on critical topics such as Stop Work Obligation and PPE usage, reinforcing a strong, safety-first mindset across crews. These courses, hosted on Trainingportal, are easy to access and up to date, ensuring timely and effective learning.

Looking ahead, plans are already underway to evolve the package further with Region and Rank-specific content to ensure training remains relevant and impactful for diverse crews across the fleet. This will align with Tidewater’s competence matrix and Mintra’s award-winning maritime course library, covering a broad range of safety-critical topics, from Behaviour-Based Safety and Hazard Identification to Cyber Security and Human Performance.

Through Trainingportal, organisations like Tidewater are able to roll out flexible, role-appropriate training that is impactful while keeping pace with rapidly changing industry demands.

Gareth Gilbert, Chief Operating Officer from Mintra added that, “We are proud to be named alongside Tidewater as finalists in the Offshore Safety Awards 2025. This achievement belongs not only to our teams, but to the mariners who have embraced the training and put it into practice onboard. Their dedication to safety and continuous learning is the true driver of this success.”
