Kongsberg Digital training simulations on Trainingportal

22 / 02 / 2022

A new partnership with Kongsberg Digital (KDI) – a provider of next generation software and digital solutions for maritime, energy and renewables – will enable Mintra’s customers to create immersive simulated training experiences.

Under the agreement, KDI will provide its state-of-the-art K-Sim Connect simulations as cloud-based subscription applications for Trainingportal – Mintra’s learning management system (LMS). The K-Sim Connect functionality will be added to a number of Mintra’s own courses in future, and customers hosting their own elearning on the LMS will also be able to add practical simulation exercises to their theory-based courses.

The K-Sim Connect subscription-based simulation library is extensive and currently includes a range of training modules on disciplines such as engine room management, use of Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) and radar, cargo handling and route planning. Additional applications covering all aspects of navigation training in depth are currently in development and will be released later this year.

Emmanolia Kolias, sales director of Trainingportal Marketplace, said: “It’s an exciting time to be optimising trainee seafarers’ skills, safety and competence during the ongoing digital transformation of the shipping industry.

“Our partnership with Kongsberg Digital will be key in giving instructors and students everywhere all the benefits of immersive, lifelike simulation training at their fingertips.”

“Our alliance with Mintra is a highly meaningful development,” added Andreas Jagtøyen, executive vice president Digital Ocean, Kongsberg Digital. “Not only will it allow us to expand our market reach among maritime training institutions, ship management concerns and shipping companies, but it also underlines our status as a major driving force in supporting education of fully-qualified and highly-skilled crews.”

KDI recently signed an agreement for K-Sim Connect to be embedded into a suite of elearning courses on the Northeast Maritime Institute’s Northeast Maritime Online (NEMO°) training, examination and certification portal. Mintra is the exclusive international provider of the STCW-compliant NEMO° courses, having won a contract to sell the courses through Marketplace – it’s online platform for the buying and selling of training - earlier this year.

KDI is the group-wide centre of digital excellence for the Kongsberg Group – an internationally renowned technology provider with clients across merchant marine, defence, aerospace, offshore oil and gas, renewable and utilities industries. The company consists of more than 500 software experts with leading competence within the internet of things, smart data, artificial intelligence, maritime simulation, automation and autonomous operations.
