Who is the course for?
This course is designed for all seafarers, regardless of rank. It is ideal for anyone interested in understanding and preventing incidents through immersive, scenario-based learning.
Is previous experience required?
No previous experience is required. This course is suitable for both new and experienced maritime professionals, as it focuses on decision-making, risk awareness, and behaviour under pressure rather than theoretical knowledge alone. It is highly recommended that this course be taken alongside SBLY-2548 Stowage, Handling and Securing of Steel Plates (Incident Investigation), which covers the specific incident in detail, providing a solid understanding of the actual events.
How will the course benefit me?

• Helps you recognise the accumulation of small oversights that cause major accidents
• Enhances your critical thinking and risk assessment skills under pressure
• Offers a personalised performance report, reinforcing good practices and identifying areas for improvement
How will the course benefit my company?
• Reveals patterns and vulnerabilities, enabling targeted interventions
• Improves overall safety culture by moving beyond box-ticking to meaningful behavioural change
• Supports proactive risk management through foresight rather than reactive incident response
What standards are referenced in the course?
No Standards or regulations applicable.
Is there an assessment?
Yes, the course assesses participants’ decisions and actions throughout the immersive scenario. At the conclusion of the scenario, within the course itself, participants receive a personalised performance report to support reflection and guide improvement.
