This course aims to introduce learners to industry best practice in relation to the transportation of dangerous goods in bulk by sea. The course should enable personnel to recognise the general principles and their shipboard application, with particular reference to identifying hazard classes, special considerations for each class, general safety precautions as well as emergency and first aid procedures.

  • Define hazardous substances and their associated dangers
  • Give an overview of the rules governing the transportation of dangerous goods in bulk
  • Identify hazard classes four to nine
  • Define materials hazardous only in bulk
  • Describe general stowage, transport, and segregation requirements for dangerous substances
  • Recognise considerations for specific hazard classes
  • Explain safety precautions, emergency plans and medical first aid guides
