Mintra exhibits at OGUK Decommissioning Conference

18 / 11 / 2021

Mintra – a member of Oil & Gas UK and long-standing partner of the energy sector – will demonstrate how it can support decommissioning activities in the North Sea at a key industry event taking place next week. The company will be exhibiting at OGUK’s Decommissioning Conference on November 23 and 24 and will be meeting attendees through a virtual booth for the duration of the two-day event.

The event will be both in-person and online, with a varied programme looking at the current state and future outlook for decommissioning. Key presentations will be made by OGUK, the Oil and Gas Authority and The Robert Gordon University, which will discuss the journey to net zero and the future skills and capabilities the North Sea will need as assets are removed and new energy projects are delivered.

Mintra is promoting a suite of six decommissioning eLearning courses, previously developed in partnership with Amec Foster Wheeler. Targeted at the unique and extensive activities involved at the end of field life, the courses provide the essential knowledge and change in mindset to appreciate the fundamentals of decommissioning.

The suite caters for anyone connected to or with an interest in decommissioning, including operators, contractors, regulators, NGOs and the financial services sector.  The content is suitable for the international market and the decommissioning activities planned or underway in the UKCS, Norway, Gulf of Mexico and Australia.

Offshore Decommissioning

Mintra’s six decommissioning courses start with an awareness level Introduction to Decommissioning (30mins) covering influences in the decommissioning process, types of installation decommissioned and the key phases in a programme.

The other titles in the range are pitched at a more detailed level of understanding:

  • Subsea Infrastructure Decommissioning (40mins) covers the elements of subsea infrastructure that are decommissioned and how it is done, the preparations before work can begin and recovered materials.
  • Facilities Decommissioning (30mins) includes what tasks are performed during hook-down, how topsides and substructures are removed and how external factors impact the work.
  • Permanent Well Abandonment (45mins) explores how Well Plugging and Abandonment fits in with the timeline of a decommissioning project and what influences the process, the stages involved in Well Plugging and Abandonment and the risks and challenges faced.
  • Planning for Decommissioning (40mins) covers a typical project timeline highlighting the key phases and activities associated with decommissioning, critical factors that influence planning for decommissioning and what affects the delivery.
  • Dismantlement & Resource Management (40mins) includes why resource management is needed and the resources decommissioning generates, where and how dismantlement takes place and the importance of reporting.

“Many other decom courses overlook the myriad of legal complexities and environmental regulations.  We covered these off with clear guidance on the variances and where to source the latest data.  The advantages of planning from an early stage is another area that is unique to our decom range,” said Kevin Short, Mintra CEO

In support of the OGUK Decommissioning Conference Mintra is offering a 20% discount on purchases made from its decommissioning range on mintra.com by using the code DECOM. This discount offer is valid throughout the event week. More about how to attend the event can be found here.
